Kickoff 2019 with great plates because eating healthier has never been easier!
Healthy eating does not mean depriving yourself of the foods you love, but food and beverage choices matter. Healthy eating means being smart about what you put on your plate, which can, indeed, include some of the foods you love. The key, for all meals, is to balance them out by including all food groups: fruits, vegetables, proteins, grains, and dairy. Healthy eating also means you feel better and have more energy. Good food equals good mood!
Need some guidance with what and how much to eat? Explore ChooseMyPlate.gov. It is a great resource for creating a healthier eating lifestyle for yourself.
MyPlate takes into consideration that each person’s healthy eating journey is unique from one person to the next, dependent on things like life stages, access to food, culture, and more. MyPlate provides great tips that will help you create a healthier eating style that meets your individual needs and improves your health.
You’ll find a wealth of information on each of the five food groups, including nutrients and health benefits, tips, tables, and quizzes. There are even Activities to Do With Kids in the Families section of the website. Just scroll down the page to find fun ways to teach kids about healthy eating.
And check out the ‘Find Resources’ tab for toolkits, print materials, infographics, videos, and more. You can even create your own MyPlate Plan by entering your age, sex, weight, height, and physical activity. A food plan will be calculated for you that tells you how many calories a day you need, as well as daily food measurement amounts for each of the five food groups. And you’ll get a template for writing down the foods you eat daily to help you keep track of your MyPlate Plan.
